Christian Lindner, Ex-Federal Minister of Finance and leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) | Christian Lindner

Christian Lindner has emphasized the importance of crypto assets in contributing to "global prosperity," highlighting that the United States is considering including them in its reserves. He expressed concerns that Germany and Europe should not fall behind in this regard. This statement was shared on X on December 29.

"Crypto assets now account for a significant part of the increase in global prosperity," said Lindner, leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP). "In the USA, the Federal Reserve is even considering including them in its reserves. Frankfurt should also look into this. Germany and Europe must not allow themselves to be left behind again."

Lindner said that both the European Central Bank (ECB) and Bundesbank should consider incorporating cryptocurrencies alongside traditional assets like gold and foreign currencies. He underscored the necessity for Frankfurt to embrace crypto assets, noting that the U.S. Federal Reserve is contemplating their inclusion in its reserves. Lindner stressed that Germany and Europe must not "be left behind."

According to Handelsblatt, Lindner argued that Europe should avoid dependency on the USA, pointing out that "the USA wants to become the world's leading location in the crypto sector alongside the dollar." He also suggested that crypto assets could bolster reserve resilience despite their inherent volatility. While acknowledging potential risks, he described them as "calculable" and manageable, comparing them to fluctuations found in classic assets such as precious metals.

In July 2024, former President Donald Trump announced plans to position the U.S. as the "crypto capital of the planet" and establish a Bitcoin "strategic reserve" if re-elected. Speaking at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump outlined his vision for making the U.S. a "Bitcoin superpower" by embracing cryptocurrency. He pledged to replace Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler and create a crypto advisory council. Trump also noted that regulations would be crafted by those who "love your industry, not hate your industry."

Lindner serves as chairman of Germany's Free Democratic Party (FDP) and held the position of Federal Minister of Finance from December 2021 to November 2024. Under his leadership, the FDP achieved strong results in the 2021 elections with a focus on economic growth, financial stability, digitalization, and education.
