Aurore Galves-Orjol, a business professor in Lyon, France, and co-founder of Bitcoin-Lyon, announced her candidacy for the 8th district of Isère. She intends to bring cryptocurrency into the political discussion. Galves-Orjol shared her statement in a June 26 post on X.

"Proof of work," said Galves-Orjol. "#Bitcoin enters the political debate from the 8th district of Isere."

French Parliament is holding elections, with the first round on June 30 and a second round on July 7, DL News reported. Galves-Orjol, an independent candidate, is running for the 8th constituency of Isère, near Lyon, France’s third most populous city.

According to DL News, digital assets are central to Galves-Orjol's campaign. "In the digital age, Bitcoin is a powerful tool of individual sovereignty and yet ignored by the different political currents," she said.

Galves-Orjol has proposed measures that encourage the use of green energy in the mining of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, according to a release by Summit.io.

According to a report released in March by the Association for the Development of Digital Assets (Adan), approximately 12% of French people currently hold crypto-assets, which is up 25% compared to the start of 2023. France is "home to one of Europe’s most developed crypto ecosystems" due to policies put forth by Emmanuel Macron’s government that attract foreign investors.

According to LinkedIn, Galves-Orjol is a professor at the Burgundy School of Business and co-founder of Leonod, a startup specializing in crypto and blockchain innovation.
