Mathieu Michel, the European Union’s Secretary of State for Digitalization, stated that the EU is striving to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in areas such as blockchain. Michel shared his statement during the Web3 Leaders Forum on July 10. France’s Association for the Development of Digital Assets (Adan), which hosted the forum, shared Michel’s statement in a post.
“Web 3 is not just an evolution of the internet but a revolution of how we connect and interact,” said Michel. “Decentralization opens a new era for security, efficiency and transparency in the industries. That is what the Europeum project, which was a priority of the Belgian presidency, aimed at getting benefits from. Blockchain is one of the keys for tomorrow’s world, and let’s remember that if you are not ahead, you are always behind.”
According to LinkedIn, Adan holds the Web3 Leaders Forum annually “to bring together those working to build a strong, high-impact European Web3 Industry.” Entrepreneurs and industry groups meet to discuss the latest topics in Web3.
Adan thanked Michel for his speech and said, “Together, Belgium, France and all Member States can embrace this innovation and build a great ecosystem of #Web3 champions that will bring Europe to another level in terms of digital sovereignty,” according to a post on X.
According to the European Commission website, the EU is striving “to be a leader in blockchain technology, becoming an innovator in blockchain and a home to significant platforms, applications and companies.” The European Commission supports the regulation and funding of blockchain in Europe.
