Christophe De Beukelaer, a Belgian Member of Parliament, expressed that following President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Europe should not fear adopting cryptocurrency but rather take inspiration from American practices. This statement was made in a January 20 post on X.
“In short, instead of being afraid, let’s roll up our sleeves and take inspiration from what Americans do best: dare, undertake and innovate,” said De Beukelaer, Belgian MP. “This is the main message we should hear today from Washington!”
According to Cointelegraph, De Beukelaer has been an advocate for integrating cryptocurrency into Europe’s financial systems. In January 2022, he became the first European politician to convert his entire salary into Bitcoin, aiming to raise awareness about alternative monetary models and the importance of financial education.
At the World Economic Forum on January 23, 2025, President Trump declared his plan to expand U.S. oil and gas production would establish the country as “the world capital of artificial intelligence and crypto.” He also discussed his administration’s commitment to widespread deregulation.
According to his website, De Beukelaer champions climate action, mobility reform, and blockchain innovation. He co-founded Brussels Blockchain Week and the organic snack company Meltingpom.be, with the aim of positioning Brussels as a tech and eco hub.
